Their first number-one single was the song “The Great Pretender,” which the group’s manager wrote in a hotel bathroom in twenty minutes. Freddy Mercury famously covered the song twenty years later. Today, the lyrics remain relevant as we all wear masks to pretend everything is alright, even when it’s not.
