An orphaned lion cub was spotted on a trail by a group of hikers in San Mateo. The hikers immediately contacted the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. When the rescuers took the cub to the zoo, the doctors saw how sick the baby lion was. They named her Rose, and she was underweight and anemic. Rose’s condition improved after being fed regularly and receiving a blood transfusion from another lion.
