Tiny heroic Yorkie saves hundreds of lives during her years of service

Corporal William Wynne bought a Yorkshire Terrier from his friend in 1944, and his life changed forever. The Yorkie’s name was Smoky, and she became an integral part of the Fifth Air Force, 26th Photo Recon Squadron. She was responsible for saving many lives in the Luzon campaign when she ran a telegraph wire through a 70-foot pipe. In 2005 a monument was built to commemorate her and honor all dogs of all wars.
